It’s natural when traveling to stop and take in your surroundings, to imagine the historical events which took place in that very spot in previous years, decades, even centuries. On a tour of the Tower of London, people hear Beefeaters regale tourists with stories of the end of Anne Boleyn and other sordid tales. Yet when we’re home, we get wrapped up in the routines of our daily lives, and we rarely pause to think about the history that happened right here under our feet in the Quad Cities. QC PastPort began as a mission to take people to the place where it happened, to preserve local history, and it’s still our mission today.

When you visit a QC PastPort destination, look at the sign, read about the history, take a moment to think about how you’re standing in the very place history took place. You may be standing in a place where crowds gathered in the early days of aviation to watch aerial acrobatics in the sky. You may be standing in a more solemn place, where Dred Scott walked before he took his case to the Supreme Court. These moments in time are not merely blurbs for history books, they’re the events that shaped our community, our world.

As summer weather cools and autumn approaches, this is the perfect time to pick a few destinations from the QC PastPort Map, visit those destinations, learn about some of the stories of those who came before us. And, of course, stand in the very place where history happened. Put yourself in that place and feel the impact of the history all around us.
