Welcome to QC PastPort. Start exploring today!

QC PastPort provides destinations where curious minds meet narratives from the past. We do this by offering self-guided, interactive, physical and digital tours throughout the Quad Cities. Stops along this tour bring our area’s rich history to life by highlighting architecture, businesses, institutions and fascinating sites through the stories of the people who were there at the time. QC PastPort is a way for all generations to have fun and learn a bit in the process. Celebrate our area’s triumphs and remember our struggles as you weave your way through what makes up this place we call the Quad Cities!

We encourage historic sites in our area to join us in telling their stories in a fun and innovative way. Together we will make sure these stories are heard throughout the community. QC PastPort is here to inspire all of us to recognize, celebrate and honor our rich history!

Why Is This Important?

How will we know it’s us, without our past.

John Steinbeck

People forget that the word history contains the word story.

Ken Burns

We shape our buildings; thereafter, our buildings shape us.

Winston Chruchill

There may have been a time when preservation was about saving old buildings here and there, but those days are gone.  Preservation is in the business of saving communities and the values they embody.

Richard Moe

National Trust for Historic Preservation

In the end, our society will be defined not only by what we create, but by what we refuse to destroy.

John Sawhill

Preservation is simply having the good sense to hold on to things that are well designed, that link us to our past in a meaningful way, and that have plenty of good use left in them.

Richard Moe

We have been the benefactors of our cultural heritage and the victims of our cultural narrowness.

Stanley Krippner

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

Marcus Garvey

Our rich and varied culture has a profound power to help build our nation.

Nelson Mandela

Tell me and I’ll forget.  Show me, and I may not remember.  Involve me, and I’ll understand.
