Curiosity is a superpower. In a world in which educational, historical, and other cultural institutions are minimized in society, it is our curiosity that preserves our culture. That curiosity pushes us forward, compels us to learn history, to value the contributions of people from all cultures who were here before us, and who created much of the world in which we still live.
At QC PastPort, we aim to spark curiosity in people about the history of the Quad Cities. We provide narrative descriptions of history, put up signs at historical sites, with codes people can enter into their phones to look at historical photos and listen to audio productions. We hope to entertain as well as educate, and to inspire people to stand in a spot and think about the people who have been here before us, and what their world would have been like as history was forged.
Right now, it can seem as if curiosity is in short supply, replaced by doom scrolling on social media. It doesn’t have to be that way. As much as we also enjoy cute pet videos on social media, we know Quad Citizens are naturally curious people. We have a rich, diverse history here, with people from many cultures. Our curiosity compels us to continue to learn, educate, and even entertain.
Please join us in our adventures in curiosity as we explore more of our fascinating history. See our Map to visit some of these destinations yourself!
