It was a challenging yet ultimately a rewarding year for QC PastPort. We had several new destinations go up across the Quad Cities, keeping our vibrant history alive for tourists and Quad Citizens alike. We rely on outside support, from partner organizations dedicated to preserving history, as well as members of the community who act as subject matter experts to review and edit our historical narratives, both for accuracy, and to help us find more fascinating details. So much history has been made in the Quad Cities, and we’re blessed to be able to help preserve that history.
Thank You to Our Founding Members
Metro Link’s Channel Cat was our first founding member, and what a perfect partner to kick off historical tours of the Quad Cities! By adding QC PastPort destinations to all of the water taxi’s stops, we were able to share local history in a way that’s unique to our Cities on the Mississippi.
QC PastPort’s office is in Rock Island, so it was only natural to have The City of Rock Island as one of our founding members. With a rich history going back to the time of the Saukenuk, Rock Island has a lot of stories to tell. We’re lucky to have the City as a partner.
Visit Quad Cities has done so much for our shared community. It’s the first stop many people make when they travel or move here. We’ve been fortunate to have a symbiotic relationship with Visit Quad Cities for years. They’ve been a wonderful resource, and invaluable partners.
We’ve been honored to include The Rock Island Public Library and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception as founding members who graciously shared the illustrious history of their buildings and their organizations which have shaped Rock Island for more than a century.
Special Thanks to Founding Partner Linda Anderson
Anyone who’s worked with us knows how important Linda Anderson has been to QC PastPort. She’s been here since the beginning. After retiring from her career as a pharmacist, Linda found herself with a second career as a local historian. She’d always been interested in history, and with retirement, she found herself more and more involved in preserving history with many local organizations, including QC PastPort. She wrote the majority of our historical narratives, and has represented us with aplomb at many local events. We wouldn’t be here today without Linda as a partner.
How Can You Help QC PastPort?
We depend on community support to fund our research, maintain our website and mobile app, and build and maintain the QC PastPort destination signs you see throughout the Quad Cities. We value your donations through our GoFundMe campaign. We also love to hear your thoughts on the work we do, and would love to hear your suggestions for future destinations. If you’re an expert on a particular bit of local historical lore, we’d be thrilled to talk more with you. Please reach out.
